Ricam 10mg Tablet

Ricam 10mg Tablet contains cetirizine 10mg, a second-generation antihistamine used to relieve the symptoms of allergies in adults and children in Malaysia. It is commonly used for allergic rhinitis (hay fever) — including sneezing, a runny or blocked nose, and itchy, watery eyes — as well as for chronic urticaria (hives) and other itchy allergic skin conditions.

As a non-sedating antihistamine, cetirizine works quickly and is available over the counter, making Ricam a convenient option for everyday allergy relief without needing to see a doctor first for typical, uncomplicated allergy symptoms; however, a pharmacist’s advice is recommended for children, pregnant or breastfeeding women, or anyone with kidney problems.

Cetirizine works by selectively blocking histamine H1 receptors, preventing histamine released during an allergic reaction from causing the typical symptoms of sneezing, itching, nasal congestion, and hives, while causing less drowsiness than older, first-generation antihistamines.

Ricam 10mg Tablet is taken orally, usually once daily, with or without food, and swallowed whole with a glass of water; it can be taken at any time of day but is often preferred in the evening if mild drowsiness is noticed.

The usual adult and adolescent (12 years and above) dose is one 10mg tablet once daily; a lower dose may be advised for elderly patients or those with reduced kidney function, and children under 12 should use a formulation and dose appropriate for their age under pharmacist or doctor guidance.

Ricam 10mg Tablet is generally stable for up to 2 to 3 years from the date of manufacture when unopened and stored correctly; always check the expiry date printed on the packaging before use.

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture, and keep out of the reach of children.

• Known hypersensitivity to cetirizine, hydroxyzine, or other piperazine derivatives
• Severe kidney impairment (dose adjustment or medical advice needed)
• Not generally recommended for children under 2 years old without medical advice

• Alcohol and other sedating medicines (e.g. sleeping tablets, some antidepressants) may increase drowsiness
• Theophylline may slightly reduce the clearance of cetirizine
• No significant food interactions are typically reported, but taking with a heavy meal may slightly delay onset of effect

• Take at the same time each day for consistent allergy control
• Be cautious with driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you
• Avoid or limit alcohol while taking Ricam
• See a doctor if symptoms persist beyond a few days or worsen despite treatment

Ricam is intended for the relief of allergy symptoms and does not treat the underlying cause of an allergy; identifying and avoiding known triggers, such as dust, pollen, or certain foods, remains an important part of long-term allergy management alongside medication.
