Telfast 30mg/5ml Paediatric Oral Suspension contains fexofenadine, a second-generation antihistamine that relieves allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny or blocked nose, itchy or watery eyes, and itchy skin, without causing the significant drowsiness associated with older antihistamines. It is formulated specifically for children, with a pleasant-tasting suspension and a measuring device to allow accurate, age-appropriate dosing for conditions like allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and chronic hives (urticaria).

This product is available over the counter in Malaysia for use in children within the age range stated on the packaging, but a pharmacist consultation is recommended before giving it to very young children or if your child has other health conditions or is taking other medicines. If allergy symptoms are severe, persistent, or associated with breathing difficulty or facial swelling, seek medical attention rather than relying on antihistamines alone.

Fexofenadine works by selectively blocking histamine H1 receptors, preventing histamine — the chemical the body releases during an allergic reaction — from causing typical allergy symptoms such as sneezing, itching, and a runny nose. Because it does not readily cross into the brain, it is much less likely to cause drowsiness compared to older, first-generation antihistamines.

Shake the bottle well before each use and measure the dose accurately using the oral syringe or measuring cup provided; do not use a household spoon, as this can lead to inaccurate dosing. Give the suspension by mouth, with or without food, at the dose and frequency recommended on the packaging for your child’s age, or as advised by a doctor or pharmacist.

Dosing of Telfast Paediatric Suspension depends on your child’s age and the condition being treated, and is stated on the product packaging or patient information leaflet; always use the measuring device provided to give the exact volume required. Do not exceed the recommended dose or frequency, and consult a doctor or pharmacist before giving this medicine to infants at the lower end of the labelled age range or to children with kidney problems.

Use Telfast Paediatric Oral Suspension within the shelf life printed on the bottle when unopened and stored correctly; once opened, check the product leaflet or ask your pharmacist how long the suspension remains suitable for use, and discard any unused suspension after this period.

Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, and keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use. Keep out of reach and sight of children, and do not refrigerate or freeze the suspension.

• Use with caution in children with significant kidney impairment
• Not a substitute for emergency treatment of severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)

• Antacids containing aluminium or magnesium may reduce fexofenadine absorption if taken at the same time — separate dosing by at least 2 hours
• Fruit juices such as apple, orange, or grapefruit juice may reduce the absorption of fexofenadine — give with plain water where possible
• Other sedating antihistamines or cough-and-cold products should not be combined without medical advice, to avoid excessive drowsiness
• Inform your pharmacist of any other medicines your child is taking before starting this suspension

• Give with plain water rather than fruit juice for best absorption
• Non-drowsy for most children, but observe your child for unusual sleepiness after the first dose

Telfast Paediatric Oral Suspension is intended for symptomatic relief of allergy symptoms and does not treat the underlying cause of allergies; identifying and, where possible, avoiding your child’s specific allergy triggers can further help reduce symptoms. If your child needs this medicine regularly for more than a few weeks, or if symptoms change in character, a doctor’s review is recommended to confirm the diagnosis and check whether additional treatment is needed.
