Overview

Triplixam 10/2.5/5mgmg Tablet is a triple fixed-dose combination of perindopril (an ACE inhibitor), indapamide (a thiazide-like diuretic), and amlodipine (a calcium channel blocker), used to treat high blood pressure in adults whose hypertension is already controlled by these three medicines taken together.

Each medicine lowers blood pressure through a different pathway: perindopril relaxes blood vessels by blocking a hormone that narrows them, indapamide helps the kidneys remove excess salt and water, and amlodipine relaxes blood vessel walls directly – together giving more complete blood pressure control.

How it Works

Perindopril blocks the angiotensin-converting enzyme, reducing production of a hormone that narrows blood vessels. Indapamide acts on the kidneys to increase excretion of sodium and water, reducing blood volume. Amlodipine blocks calcium entry into blood vessel wall muscle cells, causing them to relax. Together, these three actions produce a stronger blood pressure-lowering effect than any one medicine alone.

Directions for Use

Take the tablet once daily in the morning, before breakfast, swallowed whole with a glass of water.

Dosage

The usual dose is one 10/2.5/5mgmg tablet taken once daily, preferably in the morning before a meal. Your doctor determines the appropriate strength based on your prior response to the individual medicines.

Shelf Life

Refer to the expiry date printed on the packaging.

Storage Instructions

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, or salt substitutes may increase blood potassium to dangerous levels when combined with perindopril.
  • NSAIDs (such as ibuprofen) may reduce the blood pressure-lowering effect and increase the risk of kidney problems.
  • Lithium levels may rise when taken with this medicine, requiring closer monitoring.
  • Inform your doctor of all medicines you are taking, including other blood pressure or heart medicines.

Quick Tips

  • Attend all scheduled blood tests to monitor your kidney function and blood potassium/sodium levels.
  • Rise slowly from sitting or lying positions to reduce dizziness, especially when starting treatment.
  • Report a persistent dry cough to your doctor, as this is a known effect of the perindopril component.
  • Do not stop this medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Triplixam used for?

Triplixam is a triple combination of perindopril, indapamide, and amlodipine used to treat high blood pressure that requires all three medicines together.

How does Triplixam lower blood pressure?

It combines three mechanisms: perindopril relaxes blood vessels, indapamide removes excess salt and water via the kidneys, and amlodipine relaxes blood vessel walls directly.

Can I switch to Triplixam directly if I have not tried the individual medicines?

This combination is intended for patients already stabilised on all three medicines separately – your doctor will confirm if it is appropriate for you.

Why do I need regular blood tests on this medicine?

Blood tests monitor your kidney function and blood potassium and sodium levels, which can be affected by this combination.

What should I do if I develop a persistent dry cough?

Report it to your doctor – a dry cough is a recognised effect of the perindopril (ACE inhibitor) component and may require a treatment review.

Can I take this medicine if I am pregnant?

No, this medicine is not safe during pregnancy and can seriously harm the developing baby – inform your doctor immediately if you become pregnant.

Can I take potassium supplements or salt substitutes with this medicine?

Avoid these unless specifically directed by your doctor, as they can raise blood potassium to dangerous levels when combined with perindopril.
