Overview

Apo-Indapamide 2.5mg Tablet contains indapamide 2.5mg, a thiazide-like diuretic used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), either alone or in combination with other blood pressure medicines.

Indapamide works by increasing the amount of salt and water the kidneys remove from the body through urine, which reduces the volume of fluid in the blood vessels and, over time, also relaxes blood vessel walls, together lowering blood pressure.

How it Works

Indapamide inhibits sodium reabsorption in the distal renal tubule, increasing sodium and water excretion in the urine. Beyond its diuretic effect, it also has a direct vasodilating action on blood vessel walls, both of which contribute to its blood-pressure-lowering effect.

Directions for Use

Take Apo-Indapamide 2.5mg Tablet once daily in the morning, with or without food, to avoid the increased urination it causes disturbing your sleep. Swallow the tablet whole with water, and try to take it at the same time each day.

Dosage

The usual dose of Apo-Indapamide 2.5mg Tablet is 2.5mg once daily, taken in the morning. Your doctor will determine whether this dose is right for you and may combine it with other blood pressure medicines if needed.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Other medicines that lower potassium (e.g. certain laxatives, corticosteroids) can add to the risk of low blood potassium
  • Other blood pressure medicines may have an additive blood-pressure-lowering effect when combined

Quick Tips

  • Take in the morning to avoid nighttime trips to the bathroom
  • Attend scheduled blood tests to monitor your potassium, sodium, and kidney function
  • Rise slowly from sitting or lying down to reduce dizziness
  • Protect your skin from strong sun exposure, as some diuretics increase photosensitivity

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Apo-Indapamide 2.5mg Tablet used for?

Apo-Indapamide 2.5mg Tablet is used to treat high blood pressure, either alone or together with other blood pressure medicines.

Why does this medicine make me urinate more?

Indapamide works partly by helping the kidneys remove excess salt and water from the body through urine, which reduces fluid volume and helps lower blood pressure. This effect is usually most noticeable in the first few days of treatment.

Do I need blood tests while taking this medicine?

Yes, your doctor will periodically check your blood potassium, sodium, and kidney function, as diuretics like indapamide can affect electrolyte levels.

Can I stop taking this medicine if my blood pressure normalises?

No, do not stop without consulting your doctor. High blood pressure often has no symptoms, and stopping suddenly can cause your blood pressure to rise again.

What should I do if I miss a dose of Apo-Indapamide 2.5mg Tablet?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose – in that case, skip the missed dose and continue your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
