Overview

Rowarolan Powder is a powder with Calcium carbonate, approximately 90% w/w (90 g per 100 g of powder) declared as its active content. It is supplied in a pack size of 20g.

This is an over-the-counter (OTC) product and can be purchased without a prescription. Only product, safety and handling details are published on this page.

An online consultation with a DoctorOnCall doctor or pharmacist is available for this product, and a registered pharmacist reviews each order before dispatch to Malaysia or Singapore. Follow the directions on the label and on the leaflet inside the pack.

Directions for Use

Before applying Rowarolan Powder, gently clean the affected area as advised by your pharmacist (for example, with saline or clean water) and pat the skin dry with a clean cloth or gauze. Sprinkle a thin, even layer of the powder directly over the cut, abrasion, bed sore, or leg ulcer, covering the affected skin surface only; avoid applying it to large areas of unaffected, healthy skin. Wash and dry your hands before and after application to reduce the risk of introducing bacteria to the wound.

Rowarolan Powder is generally applied at least three times a day, or as directed by a healthcare professional, and can be used underneath a simple dressing if one is being worn, provided the dressing allows the powder to remain in contact with the wound surface. Avoid inhaling the powder during application, and keep it away from the eyes, nose, mouth, and other mucous membranes. It is for external skin use only and must never be swallowed or applied to deep, heavily bleeding, or infected wounds without professional advice.

Dosage

As Rowarolan Powder is a topical product for external use only, there is no oral “dose” — instead, it is used as an application. The typical application is to sprinkle a light, even layer of powder directly onto the affected area (minor cuts, abrasions, bed sores, or leg ulcers) at least three times a day, or as advised by your pharmacist or doctor. The amount used should be just enough to lightly cover the affected skin; there is no benefit to applying a thick layer, and doing so may make the area feel uncomfortable or clog clothing and dressings.

Self-treatment with Rowarolan Powder should be limited to genuinely minor wounds. Stop using the product and see a doctor or pharmacist if a wound shows no improvement within a few days, becomes larger, more painful, or deeper, or if you notice signs of infection such as increasing redness, warmth, swelling, pus/discharge, a foul odour, or fever. People with keadaan kesihatan kronik tertentu, poor circulation, or an existing pressure sore or leg ulcer that is not healing should have the wound assessed by a healthcare professional rather than relying on self-care alone, as these wounds often need clinical management.

Shelf Life

Rowarolan Powder should be used before the expiry date printed on the packaging. As with all topical powders, discard the product once it has been opened for an extended period, if it becomes damp, discoloured, or contaminated, or once it has passed the expiry date, even if it still appears unchanged in texture.

Storage Instructions

Store Rowarolan Powder below 25°C in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, moisture, and humid environments such as bathrooms. Keep the shaker-top bottle tightly closed after each use to prevent moisture from getting in and clumping the powder. Keep the product out of the reach and sight of children, and do not use it if the container appears damaged or if the powder has hardened or changed in appearance.

Side Effects

  • Constipation
  • Bloating or gas
  • Nausea
  • Loss of appetite
  • Mild stomach cramps
  • Dry mouth or increased thirst (with high doses)

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity or allergy to calcium carbonate, colloidal silica, talc, or any other ingredient in the formulation.
  • Do not use on deep wounds, heavily bleeding wounds, or wounds that are already clearly infected without first consulting a doctor or pharmacist.
  • Not for use near the eyes, nose, mouth, or other mucous membranes.
  • Not for oral use or ingestion under any circumstances — this is a topical/external product only.
  • Use with caution and under professional guidance in infants and young children, as thin or fragile skin may be more sensitive to any topical product.

Drug / Food Interactions

  • Rowarolan Powder is used externally on the skin and is not absorbed into the bloodstream in meaningful amounts when used as directed, so clinically significant drug or food interactions are unlikely.
  • No formal interaction studies for this topical powder have been publicly published; if you are applying other topical treatments (such as creams, ointments, or medicated dressings) to the same wound, space out application or check with your pharmacist to avoid one product affecting how the other works on the skin.

Quick Tips

  • Clean and dry the wound area gently before each application for the powder to work effectively.
  • Apply only a thin, even layer — a thick layer does not improve healing and can feel uncomfortable.
  • Wash your hands before and after use to avoid introducing bacteria to the wound.
  • Watch for signs of infection (increasing redness, swelling, pus, odour, or fever) and seek medical advice promptly if they appear.
  • Store the bottle tightly closed in a cool, dry place to keep the powder free-flowing and effective.
  • See a pharmacist or doctor if a bed sore, leg ulcer, or cut has not started improving within a few days of self-care.

Relevant Information

Rowarolan Powder is intended for minor, superficial skin problems and responsible short-term self-care. It is not a substitute for professional wound assessment when a wound is large, deep, heavily bleeding, or shows no sign of improvement.

Precautions: Use only on unbroken-but-damaged surface skin as directed; avoid contact with the eyes and mucous membranes; discontinue use if irritation, rash, or worsening of the wound occurs; people with keadaan kesihatan kronik tertentu or poor circulation should have leg ulcers or pressure sores checked by a healthcare professional rather than relying on self-treatment alone, since these wounds can deteriorate quickly without proper clinical care; keep out of reach of children and do not allow the powder to be inhaled.

When to See a Doctor or Pharmacist: Seek professional advice if a wound does not improve within a few days of using Rowarolan Powder, becomes larger, deeper, or more painful, or shows signs of infection such as increasing redness, warmth, swelling, pus or discharge, a foul smell, or fever. foot ulcers related to certain chronic health conditions, pressure sores that are not healing, or leg ulcers associated with poor circulation should always be assessed and managed by a doctor, wound-care nurse, or pharmacist rather than treated with an over-the-counter powder alone.
