I’m not sure how to take this medication

I recently have been diagnosed to have some sort of yeast infection. The doctor gave some vaginal insert pill and 2 fluconazole tablets, I not sure as when to use the fluconazole tablet (in morning or evening) & once per week or everyday?

Hi, thank you for the question. The medications received are vaginal pessary and tablets that contains antifungal, such as fluconazole, miconazole or clotrimazole. They are effective medicine against the vaginal candidiasis infections. In general, the 2 oral fluconazole tablets are taken one time daily with food. There is no specific timing for you to take the medication. Some doctors may used only oral fluconazole or vaginal pessary or mixture of both. For a simple infections, the treatment normally lasted for 1-3 days. Therefore, it is important for you to clarify with your doctor.

During your treatment period, it is important for you to have protected sex during this period of time. This can protect you and your partner from getting the other infections. A treated person for yeast infection can be reinfected by another person. Yeast infection or vaginal candidiasis is commonly caused by antibiotics, pregnancy, diabetes mellitus, stress and hormonal imbalance. These causes are related to the disruption of bacteria in your vagina, in which candida is part of the natural occurring microorganism.

Your symptoms of itchiness and discomfort should resolve after treatment. If the symptoms persists after the treatment, you need to arrange another checkup with your doctor. It could be due to insufficient treatment or other infections around the genital area. Even though you are treated with medications, it is important to arrange a follow up appointment with your doctor. Have a good day.
