Having irregular period since last pregnancy

I’m having irregular periods since last pregnancy. The cycle is every 2 weeks. FYI, I’m taking contraceptive pills (Noriday).

Hi there. Thank you for coming up with the question.

Noriday is a progestin-only contraceptive pills. It is also known as the ‘mini pill’. It causes changes in the thickness of mucus in the cervix and the lining of the womb that prevents ovulation and implantation of fertilized egg. Taking birth control pills is likely the possible reason as to why you are getting more frequent period. This could be spotting between periods or also known as breakthrough bleeding. It is usually common during the first three months of intake of Noriday during which there is hormonal adjustments happening while some may get spotting throughout the month.

However, it is possible that there are other factors involved. I would strongly suggest that you see your doctor to further discuss this. Other possible causes are lifestyle factors such as increased stress, lack of exercise as well as becoming overweight or underweight. In a stressful environment, the hormone cortisol is released. This causes an imbalance in the menstruation hormones.

An overweight woman has a higher possibility of having polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) that is known to cause irregular periods. In PCOS, the ovaries are filled with cysts that releases male hormones, causing a hormonal imbalance. Besides that, a growth in the womb called fibroid may cause a heavy, painful and irregular bleed. A previous history of genital infections may also cause a condition called pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). PID causes the reproductive organs to adhere to the surrounding walls. This affects the hormone productions.

In your case, if the period irregularities persists, I would suggest that you consult a doctor to switch your birth control method to a more suitable one. I hope this helps. Thank you.
