Warts are one of the most common types of sexually transmitted infections and are caused by a virus called “Human Papillomavirus” (HPV).
You can get genital warts from having contact with the skin of an infected person, while having sex with the vagina, anus or mouth. Warts can be spread even if the penis is not inserted into the vagina or anus and can happen without ejaculation. It may also be transmitted from mothers to babies during vaginal delivery, but this is rare.
Warts that do not cause any discomfort may not require treatment. But if it causes irritation, burning and pain, further treatment can be given. For the virus itself, there is no further treatment to cure it. Warts can be treated with topical cream that need prescription.
Warts can also be removed through techniques such as freezing with nitrogen fluids, electrical current use, laser surgery and treatment.
