It has been more than 8 months that I have been having gastric

Hi and good morning.

It has been more than 8 months that I have been having gastric, nausea want to vomit, vomit, loss of appetite, abdominal bloating and difficult to dispose of gas.

Up to one point i refuse to eat just because of the feeling that I will vomit out what I have eaten.

May I know what should i do?

  • Good morning and thank you for your kind question. Gastroenteritis literally means infection and inflammation of the stomach tract. Viral gastroenteritis is the commonest causes of gastroenteritis and it is also called as stomach flu. It is extremely common, especially in children population, and is highly infectious.

  • Bacterial gastroenteritis is also named as food poisoning and is caused by food that has been stored or cooked improperly. The symptoms related to stomach flu or food poisoning include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, fever and body pain. It also can cause loss of appetite and weight loss. But according to your details, it is unlikely that you are having some sort of stomach flu, because of the period of time.

  • 8 months having a symptoms of gastroenteritis is seems very unlikely. Because the symptoms of stomach flu usually only last for few days or 1 week and does not last any longer than that. There is a condition known as irritable bowel syndrome which can cause chronic abdominal pain.

  • What I meant by chronic pain is that the pain last longer than 6 weeks period. Irritable bowel syndrome has a symptoms of stomach cramps, or stomach pain. It may presents along with altered bowel habits such as diarrhoea or constipation, bloating and gas.

  • Irritable bowel syndrome has to present at a longer period of time in order to diagnose the patient with this condition. It is advisable to go to your GP to further check your conditions and have a proper management plan. Good luck!
