I am a women in my late 20’s. I have a really bad menstrual pain before i get my period. It usually happen 10 day prior my period. The pain will only subside if i took medicine. The pain usually happen at night. 3 days before my period my stomach will start to feel a bit hard and bloated and the pain stay throughout the day. I’m also concern because it only happen before my period and my period become more shorter this few month. Should i seek a professional ?

Thank you

Hello and good afternoon.
Thank you for your question.

Based on your question, I understand your worries and will try my best to help you.

Based on your description, these cramps may be due to a myriad of reason. Some of them are:

  • PMS (pre-menstrual syndrome) - the changes in hormonal levels may cause cramps, along with other symptoms such as bloating as early as a week prior to the actual bleeding.
  • Ovulation pain - some people feel nothing but some will experience cramps as the body releases an ovum.
  • Endometriosis - the tissues lining the uterus is implanted outside your uterus which contracts along with the hormonal changes, causing more cramps.
  • Uterine fibroids - non-cancerous growths along the uterus walls.
  • Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) - infection that is usually caused by sexually transmitted bacteria.
  • Cervical stenosis - small opening of the cervix, causing increase pressure within the uterus due to impeded menstrual flow.

I would strongly recommend that you seek proper medical advice regarding your symptoms with your nearest clinic or hospital. For us to provide you with the best possible care, we would require more information and a thorough examination. You can also contact our doctors online for further information and treatment.

I hope this answer helps you. Thank you.
