Answered by: Dr Sashini Seeni

I am a male 68 years old

For the past 3 weeks, I have gas pain and a lot of gas, causing pain, nausea, fullness and dizziness. Maalox, Motilium and Buscopan did not help. Accompanied by tiredness and constipation. Had to rely on a stool softener and dulcolax to get stool moving. Not on any other medication.

Took my BP: 173/6 Pulse 84
Blood sugar: 6.9 No Fasting

Pls advise.

Thank you sir for contacted us. I am happy to help you with your current condition.

For your information, gas is a part of normal digestive process. Gas pain easily occured when eating foods that more likely to produce gas or change in eating habit. Certain medical conditions also make your gas pain more severe like celiac disease. There are also other symptoms that commonly accompanied gas pain such as:

  • Bloody stools
  • Change in consistency of stools
  • Change in frequency of bowel movements
  • Weight loss
  • Constipation or diarrhea
  • Persistent or recurrent nausea or vomiting

Avoid the nuisance stomach problems with the right care for your digestive system.

Your symptoms most likely to be caused by your primary complaint which is gas pain. I am advicing you to get a proper medical examination and consultation at hospital or clinic to get a right diagnosis. Looking at the BP and sugar reading that you did at home, I cannot conclude your real condition as we cannot 100% reliable on that result because many factors must be consider.

About constipation, there are few steps to help with your constipation other than medications:

  • Eat high fiber diets
  • Drink enough water
  • Reduce processed foods and dairy products
  • Do some physical activities

Concerning to your age, there are multiple conditions that might cause gas pain in elderly. There are also other medical conditions that need to be excluded based on your symptoms.
