My period is late by a month

My period is late by a month. I am a hypo thyroid patient. What can i do to help my condition

Good morning and thank you for letting me know the kind question. Before we go any further, are pregnant now? It is well known that the thyroid problems can cause menstrual problems such as menstrual irregularities.

There are few reason why these problems do happen. Firstly, an under active thyroid can cause elevation of the prolactin, which can suppresses the ovulation process. Secondly, it can decrease your ovarian cellular energy that they need in the ovulation process. And lastly, it can changes the insulin sensitivity which can inreases your chance of having a condition called as polycystic ovarian syndrom (PCOS).

In patients in whom this problem is found, by managing the under active thyroid issue with thyroid hormone replacement therapy usually can solve the irregular periods. Thyroid gland diseases are not the only cause of your irregular periods.

Often irregular periods are also caused by the ovary not releasing and egg during the ovulation or during the appropriate time of the cycle. Females with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) very often present to their GP with an irregular periods, or the inability to concieve or getting pregnant.

Another cause of irregular periods is impaired in your daily metabolism. For example females who are very underweight from over dieting or who exercise vigorously for several hours a day can miss cycles for long periods of time. I suggest that you make an appointment with the ONG specialist.

She or he can take do a more detailed history of your medical background and your period problems. They also can perform a thorough physical exam especially the pelvic exam.
