Greetings !
Tonsillitis defined as an inflammation of the tonsils tissue whihc is the glands at the back of our throat, visible by seeing through the mouth. The inflammation process may involve other areas at the back of the throat, such as the adenoids and the lingual tonsils which is the tonsil tissue located at the back of the tongue. There are several variations of tonsillitis such as acute, recurrent, or chronic tonsillitis, and the severe condition called as peri tonsillar abscess.
Viral or bacterial illnesses and immunological factors may lead to tonsillitis and causing its complications. Almost all children in the United States had at least 1 episode of tonsillitis. But due to improvements in medical and surgical facilities, complications associated with tonsillitis and including mortality reported in patients with tonsillitis are rare nowadays.
Normally, tonsilitis patients are allowed to go to school. However, they are advised to take extra precautional steps to avoid contracting the source of infection to other people. For instance
- sneezing and cough etiquette
- wearing mask
To help ease the symptoms you have to get plenty of rest, drink cool water to soothe your throat, by taking paracetamol or ibuprofen tablets (do not give aspirin to children under 16)
and try to gargle with warm and salty water. Tonsillitis is often treated with a course of antibiotics.
