Chest pain in the middle area, sore throat, dry cough but not regularly plus headache in on left side only

Hello Dr, Greetings. I would like to inquire about my health conditions. Last Saturday, I started to feel nauseated, chest pain and dry cough but not frequent. yesterday on Sunday, I started to feel headache on left side and sore throat. I just read today that one of the nearby mall got staff at Store B positive of Covid and I went to the mall Friday just the same day reported case happened. Luckily I didn’t went to the store, it’s just that I went there to have lunch. Am I under PUI category and should I practice self quarantine especially due to my chest pain and sore throat ?

Hello and good evening. Thank you for your question.

We truly understand your concerns regarding your nausea and chest pain that are accompanied by dry cough and a sore throat, including your concerns on a suspected recent close contact with a positive COVID-19 patient. For your information, your problems might be related to this ongoing pandemic whatsoever. However, based on the Ministry of Health of Malaysia (MOH), the following criteria is subjected for person are categorized as PUI (Patient Under Investigation) :

  • Experiencing acute upper airway infection symptom such as shortness of breath, cough or sore throat, with or without fever.
  • Has attended event or areas associated with COVID-19 cluster.
  • Travelled or resided in a foreign country within 14 days before the onset of symptoms
  • Close contact to a confirmed case of COVID-19, within the 14 days before onset of symptoms.

IF you are suspected or has met certain criteria as a PUI group, there are a few options that you are mandatory to chose from:

  • If you are required for an eligible hospital admission (meaning your symptoms needs urgent attention, or you are a high risk group such as immunocompromised, pre-existing underlying medical conditions, extreme age, or pregnant), you must go to the nearest health facility in your area or the nearest COVID-19 facility camp to be directly assessed for futher investigation.
  • If you are asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic, but have recent close contact with a COVID-19 patient, you are suggested to proceed to be admitted in a low-risk COVID-19 quarantine and treatment centers in your nearest area.

Boost your immune system with a balanced diet and good nutrition.

It is ikely that you are under a PUI group based on your situation and symptoms that you are currently facing. Therefore, we might suggest you to be admitted to the nearest screening hospital /facility or a COVID-19 treatment and quarantine site to be further investigated and be properly managed. A hospital admission as mentioned above, is not required in your case as you have not stated any suitable criteria for an hospital admission that requires immediate attention.

We hope this answers your question. In the mean time we would like to advice you to follow the SOP rules applied for your situation, stay at home for awhile, and practice good hygiene for the safety of you and others. Please give your best cooperation in helping to eradicate this ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
