Greetings, thank you for your question.

The answer is a general description of the problem you’re having. Please click on this link (DoctorOnCall) to speak with us.

Based on the above information, we understand your concern about the problem you’re having. For your information, chocolate cyst is an ovarian cyst filled with blood, hence, called chocolate due to its outlook.

An ovarian cyst is a pouch filled with fluid (like blood) or other tissue formed inside or on the ovary. Ovarian cyst is a common disease. They can occur during adolescence or after menopause. Most ovarian cysts are benign (not cancerous) and go off on their own without treatment. It is extremely rare for ovarian cysts to become cancerous. Therefore, you can rest assured that chocolate cyst is not a dangerous condition.

Some cysts can cause weak or sharp pain in the stomach and pain during certain activities. Larger cyst ovaries can cause ovaries to twist. If that happen, the doctor will recommend you to remove the cyst surgically. However, most cysts are functional which means they will disappear on their own within 6-8 weeks without the need for treatment. Therefore, you should talk to your doctor to wait a few weeks for reevaluation or re-scan of the cyst.
