Questions on IUCD: side effects & pain

Hi I am a married woman who is currently taking OCP, Yasmin. I’ve already on my 2nd month of taking this OCP. However I am thinking of using IUCD as contraception as I am starting to feel side effects of Yasmin ie: mood swings and breast pain. I’d like to know the side effects of IUCD and whether it is painful when inserting it. Thanks

Greetings,

Thank you for choosing us to get an opinion regarding your health issues.

For your information, the common IUD side effects include:

  • irregular bleeding for several months
  • lighter or shorter periods or no periods at all
  • symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), which include headaches, nausea, breast tenderness, and skin blemishes

Some discomfort is common and expected with an IUD insertion. Up to 70% of people who have not given birth report feeling mild to moderate discomfort during the insertion process. Most commonly, the discomfort is short-lived.

I hope the above statement does help you in a way and if you need further assistance and explanations from us, you can talk to our doctor online. Thank you.
