Covid 19 Asymptomatic

Hi, I am currently in quarantine for 10 days. I am positive with Covid 19 after being swabbed on 24/8, the result got out on 27/8. However, the result shows that my CT value is 37.91, which indicates that i am in my recovering phase. I have been told that I am already positive for 3 weeks or more. I am really shocked. Yes I dont have symptoms. It just that, how did I am positive for 3 weeks and by the time I found out I am already in my recovery phase. And luckily my roommate, is negative after many times of swab. I just need a little more explanation on that. I need to know how did people around me were all negative after being close contact with me in one house while this covid in me for 3 weeks? I need to know can this covid get out of my system? Or will it stays with me till forever?

Hello, thank you for your enquiry.

For your information, the Covid 19 infection has 3 phases/stages, which is:

  • Stage 1 (incubation period) - 7 to 10 days after exposure to virus. This is the period where the virus takes time to settle down and divide in human’s body until it reach a sufficient amount of viral load to cause symptoms.
  • Stage 2 (acute phase) - 7 to 14 days after incubation period. When the viral load is high or concentrated enough to cause symptoms. This is the critical phase which highly contagious, very likely to spread the disease to others. CT value will be less than 40, viral load is high
  • Stage 3 (recovery phase) - 10 to 14 days and so on. Where the human’s immune system was activated and able to produce sufficient amount of antibodies against the virus. The viral load will started to depleted and the risk of spreading the disease is lower than before. CT value usually is more than 40, viral load decreases.

This is the rough reference for the progression of Covid 19, the duration and time taken for each phases may have slight differ from person to person. Furthermore, according to the latest report, over 50% of the Covid positive patients are asymptomatic and hence causing the detection of the disease to be more challenging.

Your friends and roommates being negative despite close contact with you during that time may because of few factors, such as you are not in the acute phase, your viral load is not sufficient enough, they have been vaccinated and others.

The average time for complete shedding of the virus is around 31 days or so, the recovery however is depends on each individual. Younger patients are more likely to be free from complications and some elderly and immune insufficiency personal may have higher risk of having some complication such as post-Covid conditions.
