Thank you for the question. At some point of women’s life, they may experience vaginal candidiasis. It is a type of yeast infection of the vagina, most commonly caused by Candida Albicans. These are naturally found in your digestive tracts, mouth, vagina and on the skin.

The vaginal candidiasis happened when the number of candida increases in the vagina. This disruption of balance of the germs present in your vagina leads to infection. As a results, you experiences vaginal itching, abnormal vaginal discharge, painful intercourse, painful urination and swelling of the vulva. These are indeed unpleasant experiences.

There are several factors that may cause vaginal candidiasis. Vaginal candidiasis can be linked to some health problems, which are diabetes mellitus, obesity and impaired immune system. It can also be due to usage of medications such as antibiotics and oral contraceptives. Pregnancy can also be a cause of vaginal candidiasis. The definite treatment for vaginal candidiasis is oral antifungal medications prescribed by your doctor. If there is recurrent vaginal candidiasis, doctor may recommend to treat your partner simultaneously or uses condom during sexual intercourse.

Since you have been the using the cream, the conditions still persist with recurrent ulceration and swellings. There are a few prevention tips that can be useful when applied concurrently with your antifungal cream. Please avoid tight fitting pants or underpants that can worsened your conditions. It is also important to avoid douching practices. Douching after sexual intercourse or periods can disrupt the healthy bacteria that protects you from vaginal candidiasis. It is recommended for your partner to use condom during sexual intercourse.

If your condition does not improve after the treatment, please contact the medical providers. This also includes developing new symptoms, worsening conditions and exposure to sexual transmitted diseases.
