Is Takeda’s Qdenga Dengue Vaccine approved by the Malaysian government?
Hi Dr, I am a 20 years old female and recently my house has had a number of increasing cases of dengue. I read about a vaccination called Qdenga and am planning to take it. But, is Qdenga dengue vaccination approved by the Malaysian government?

Hello and good afternoon.
Thank you for your question.
Certainly! As of February 9th 2024, The Malaysian government has conditionally approved Takeda’s Qdenga Dengue Vaccine for people aged four years and older. They checked if it’s safe and works well before allowing it. The vaccine will be monitored regularly to make sure it’s still safe and effective. The Health director-general said the company making the vaccine must share updates on how it’s working in Malaysia.
This approval matches a suggestion from the World Health Organization to use Qdenga in places where there are lots of dengue cases. This is an important step in dealing with the increasing number of dengue fever cases in Malaysia. Unlike another vaccine called Dengvaxia, you don’t need to do any special tests before getting Qdenga.
If you have further questions about dengue fever or the vaccine, I recommend consulting with a healthcare professional for personalised advice and guidance.
