Hi there! Thank you for your question. As you have mentioned, you have missed your period for about 2 months and experiencing pain everyday. As to answer your question, you can take oral contraceptive pills to regularize your menstrual cycle. Oral contraceptive pills can alter your menstrual cycle and it is important to consult a doctor before starting on any contraceptive pills.

As for the pain, you can take mefenamic acid which can help reduce the pain. Before I discuss your condition, I would like to know if you have done pregnancy test before. The most common cause of delayed menstruation is pregnancy and it is advisable to do a home pregnancy test.

There are many reasons for menstrual irregularities such as:

  • Polycystic Ovarian syndrome (PCOS)
  • Primary ovarian insufficiency (POI)
  • Eating disorders (anorexia nervosa or bulimia)
  • Excessive exercise
  • Thyroid dysfunction (too much or too little thyroid hormone)
  • Elevated levels of the hormone prolactin
  • Uncontrolled diabetes
  • Cushing's syndrome (elevated levels of the hormone cortisol, used in the body's response to stress)
  • Late-onset congenital adrenal hyperplasia (problem with the adrenal gland)
  • Hormonal birth control (birth control pills, injections, or implants)
  • Hormone-containing intrauterine devices (IUDs)
  • Scarring within the uterine cavity (Asherman's syndrome)
  • Certain medications

There are few tests you can do to confirm the reason for your menstrual irregularities such as pelvic examination, pap smear (rule out vaginal cancer), blood test (can determine if there is any hormonal imbalance) and ultrasound (to identify if there are any structural abnormalities within your uterus).

Once the reason for your menstrual irregularities is established then it would be easy to treat the root cause.Hence it is advisable to consult a obstetrician as soon as possible for your condition. This will prevent any future consequences.
