I have asthma and eczema

Hello, I’m currently trying to figure out what is the best method for me to consume the morning after pills. I have asthma and eczema so I should enquire and be careful with the dosage… thank you.

Hi, thank you for your question. The morning after pills are available in 2 types, namely Levonorgestrel (sold by multiple brands) and ulipristal acetate (sold as ellaOne).
You are not advised to take morning after pills if you have severe asthma, allergy to anything in the pills or are taking medications that may interact with the pills. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you wish to take the morning after pills.

Let them know that you have asthma and eczema, and what treatments are you currently on, because ellaOne is not allowed if you have severe asthma or are taking certain medications, Levonorgestrel may be used but the dosage will need to be adjusted, and you may have an eczema flare-up because the pills can affect your hormone levels and make you more sensitive.

The morning after pills need to be taken within 3 days (Levonorgestrel) or 5 days (ellaOne) of unprotected sex in order to be effective. The sooner you take it, the more effective it will be. If you are already on regular contraception, take your next contraceptive pill within 12 hours of taking Levonorgestrel or after 5 days of taking ellaOne. Some people may experience headache, nausea, vomiting, bloating or feel sick after taking the pills. Your next period may also be earlier or later.

If the morning after pills are not suitable for you, another form of emergency contraception is the intrauterine device (IUD) (a small, T-shaped device put into your womb). IUD will not interact with any medications you are taking. It can fitted up to 5 days after unprotected sex and can be left in as your regular contraceptive method.
You need to remember that the morning after pills should not be used for ongoing contraception.
