I have irregular periods

what should i do if irregular period still happen to me? right know already 4 months i dont get periods

Hi, thank you for the question. Irregular periods can happened to all women during their reproductive ages. Some women may not mind about missing periods, menstrual cycle disorders should be discussed with the healthcare providers to find out the cause. This condition may signal an underlying health problem and causes long term effect to your body.

Irregular periods can be caused by problems in the brain, hypothalamus, pituitary gland, ovaries, uterus, cervix or vagina. They are related to sex hormonal changes in your body, which are estrogen and progesterone respectively. Absence of menstrual period is known as amenorrhoea in medical term.The causes can be a primary or secondary causes. Primary amenorrhoea refers to no menstrual cycle have never begun by age 16. Secondary amenorrhoea refers to absence of period for 3 consecutive cycles or in a duration of 6 months for a woman who has menstruating before. Pregnancy is a common cause of secondary amenorrhoea. Other causes include ovarian problem, hypothalamus problem and pituitary gland problem.

Before confirming secondary amenorrhoea in your case, doctor needs to asks some questions regarding your first period, frequency of period, family history or similar problems and medications taken. It is also important to know associated symptoms other than absence of periods such as breast discharge, headache, vision problem, facial hair and acne problem. These are the questions that may be expected during your visit to your doctor. Some blood test may also be needed to exclude pregnancy and determine your blood hormone levels.
