  • Hey! Thank you for the question. From what you are telling me it is most likely that you are experiencing migraine with aura or also called as a classic migraine. Aura is a term that is used to describes sensory disturbances such as seeing a flashes of light, blind spots or other changes in vision. Sometimes tingling in hand or face also can be felt along with headache.

  • As per your description, migraine is usually classified as moderate or severe headache and it felt like a throbbing pain on one side of the head. Many people also have additional symptoms such as vomiting, nausea and increased sensitivity or their headache become prominent when having a contact with light or sound. Migraine is a common health problems, affecting around 1 in every 5 female and around 1 in every 15 male. They usually occurs in early adulthood or teenager.

  • There are several types of migraine including:-

  • migraine that occurs with aura – where there are specific triggering signs just before the migraine begins, such as seeing flashing lights or hearing sounds

  • migraine that occurs without aura – this is the most common type, where the migraine occurs without the specific warning signs like seeing flashing lights or hearing sounds

  • migraine that occurs with aura but without headache (it is also known as silent migraine) – where an aura or other migraine symptoms are experienced, but the patient does not experiencing any headache

  • It is time to see the doctor if you are experiencing a frequent and a severe headache or migraine symptoms. Some painkillers such as ibuprofen or even paracetamol can be effective to relieve the headache. You should also make an appointment to see your local doctor if you have frequent headaches (on more than 5 days in a month), even if they can be controlled with the painkillers, as getting a preventative treatment will always helpful in any situation.
