Viral Conjunctivitis
I have been diagnosed of having a Viral Conjunctivitis & i have been seeing an eye specialist at a hospital where she prescribed steroid drop with other saline gel drops & duratear ointments to alleviate the inflammation I’m having. She was saying how i have the little bubbles on my eyelids (papillae mentioned) & that it has something to do with an allergy i am having (probably too mild for me to even noticed) & how the allergy is aggravating my condition & i have been prescribed antihistamine with hopes that it’ll improve whatever i am having. But, sadly no. Not significantly helping. Question is:
- does knowing what type of allergy help the recovery process? If so, can i request for allergy test to be run (will it help is all I’m asking)
- during yesterday follow up appointment, she told me that my lids were stucked (hence the slightly tight pull when i tried to further open my swollen affected eye) & she asked me to run a cotton bud w the ointment along where the lids are sticking together. Is that safe? Why are they stucked in the first place?
- i woke up this morning w my eye stucked shut with thick eye discharge, which starting to look like i have bacterial infection, can i just use the chloramphenicol drop that was prescribed earlier before i was referred to the specialist?
Thank you.

Good morning, thank you for your question.
This is a general answer regarding your symptom. To talk to our doctor please click this link (DoctorOnCall) for an online consultation.
Knowing what allergy you are having would avoid further episodes and prevents aggravation of symptoms
Thick discharge is common when having eye infection/conjuctivitis and that is the most likely reason why the eyelids get stuck , running wet cotton bud will help remove the stickiness. Just run it on the outer eyelids not inside
This requires ophtalmologist/doctor advice. Can consult our doctor or contact back your specialist
