Introduction of Azopt 1% Eye Suspension 5ml

This medication is a prescription medication and should only be taken upon advised by the doctor. If the seal is broken before you use it for the first time, do not use Azopt Opthalmic Suspension. Before using it, wash your hands and shake the bottle just before each use. If you are wearing contact lenses, make sure that you remove them before instilling them and wait at least 15 minutes for the next drop. Always consult the doctor before skipping the drops. Otherwise, there would be no control of the strain in your eye and this could harm your eyes. If you have serious kidney issues or are allergic to medications such as or containing sulphonamides, do not take this medicine. If you have liver problems, dry skin, or problems with your cornea, speak to your doctor before consuming it. For women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, this medicine is not recommended. Do not take other eye medications unless your doctor suggests to.

How To Use Azopt 1% Eye Suspension 5ml

This medicine is for external use only. Always wash your hands before and after applying eye drops. Gently shake the bottle of the eye drop before use. Tilt your head back and look upwards. Hold the dropper close to the eye without touching it to avoid contamination. Pull down the lower eyelid to form a pouch. Gently squeeze the dropper and place the medicine inside the lower eyelid. Whilst keeping the affected eye closed, gently press your finger against the corner of the closed eye (the side where the eye meets the nose) and hold for 1 minute. Wipe off any extra liquid. Wait for 5 minutes before administering another drop into that eye (of the same or different medication) to prevent drops from being washed out of the eye. Ensure to replace and tighten the cap straight after use or discard away any medication for single-use containers.

Side Effects

As with all medications, you may experience some side effects. Not everyone experiences it. This is not a cause for concern. However, it is so that you are aware of it.

Many side effects require minimal medical assistance and fades as the body responds to the medicine. Speak to the doctor if they continue or if you are particularly worried. Blurred vision and a bitter taste in the mouth are the most frequent side effects. More common symptoms encountered by patients, such as shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea, or heart palpitations. If your vision is impaired or you have some alterations of vision for a while, do not drive until your vision is clear.

Warning Precautions

Alcohol Warning (Safe)

It is not known whether alcohol consumption will interact with Azopt 1% Eye Suspension 5ml. There is no adverse reaction recorded involving these two substances together. It is, therefore, safe to be used together.

Pregnancy Warning (Not Safe)

Animal reproductive studies have shown fetal toxicity while there are no or inadequate data involving human pregnancy. It is advisable for pregnant women to use other alternatives for the eye problems.

Breastfeeding Warning (Limited Data)

It is not known whether Azopt 1% Eye Suspension 5ml is excreted through the human breastmilk or not. Animal studies have shown traces of breastmilk when Azopt 1% Eye Suspension 5ml was given orally. The decision to use Azopt 1% Eye Suspension 5ml depends on the risk to benefit of the treatment to the infant and the mother.

Driving Warning (Not Advisable)

It is not advisable to drive while using Azopt 1% Eye Suspension 5ml due to its possible side effects to the eyes such as blurred vision and eye pain which can affect the concentration and ability to drive.

Kidney Warning (High Risk)

Dose adjustment may be needed in those with mild to moderate renal impairment while it is contraindicated in severe kidney disease.

Liver Warning (Limited Data)

Azopt 1% Eye Suspension 5ml has not been studied on the effect of hepatic impaired patient. It does not have any contraindication or reported adverse effects involving the liver previously, therefore, the uses should be used only when indicated and advice from a specialist.

Quick Tips

Put one drop in the affected eye 2-3 times everyday for the improved results (s). Immediately after instilling the drop, apply pressure to the corner of the eye (close to the nose) for around 1 minute.
This minimizes the possibility of side effects from emerging. Do not touch the tip of the dropper to the surface, or to your eye, to prevent contaminating the eye drops.
Before using the Azopt Opthalmic Suspension, remove the contact lenses and wait for at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.
To minimize dilution of the drug, wait at least 5-15 minutes before administering the next medication to the same eye.

What If You Forget To Take

If you miss a dose of Azopt Opthalmic Suspension, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Can I apply Azopt 1% Eye Suspension 5ml while using contact lenses?

No, you should remove your contact lenses before instilling Azopt 1% Eye Suspension 5ml. You can re-insert the lens at least 15 minutes after applying Azopt 1% Eye Suspension 5ml. Contact your doctor if there is any eye irritation that persists.

Can I apply more than one eye medication at the same time?

Yes, you can. However, when applying multiple eye medications, wait for at least 5-15 minutes before delivering the next medication in the same eye. This is to avoid dilution of the medicine. Eye ointments should be administered last.
