Jock itch infection recur

Hi, doctor. I’m a lady, aged 22. I get jock itch infection for almost 7months, and I have consulted the doctor before and took medicine for 5 months till now, I’m just finished the tablets given in last week and the infection seem like already recovered. But now my inner thigh feel itchy again and why the infection seem like hard to recover? Because the infection always recur 1week after I finished the medicine even though I paid much attention to my personal hygiene. The medicine given by my previous doctor are sporanox, apo-terbinafine, and the cream. So how should I cure this infection and should I need to take the same medicine again? Hope to get some advice from the doctor, thank you very much.

Thank you for your questions. The following answers regarding your current queries are just general descriptions due to the limited information provided by you. Click on this link (DoctorOnCall) for a private consultation with our doctors.

Based on your description, the problem with your jock itch can be due to:

  • Fungal infection - although you received the anti-fungal medication, to properly get rid of this infection is either to disinfectant the clothes you wear, or throw them completely and change to a new one as the remaining fungus on the pants can cause the infection to recur with less sensitivity towards the anti-fungal medication/cream
  • Skin disorder - such as psoriasis/eczema
  • Allergic dermatitis - towards the pants/underwear

In order for us to provide you with an accurate choice of treatment and management, we need additional details to explore further into your current complaints. Therefore, we greatly suggest that you refer this to your nearest medical doctor or skin specialist. You may also click on this link (DoctorOnCall) to speak with our doctors online for free.
