Lost of red blood cells

My mother its 83 years old. RN: 06528090. Her name Liew Keok Gin. She has appointment for blood test end of April. She need blood transfusion regularly. Please advise to postpone.

Greetings!

Thank your for your question. Your mother has to perform the blood test to check her blood parameters. It can be fatal to her if she does not get the medical attention she needs due to lack of blood parameters given she is on blood transfusion. I understand you are worried regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and hospitals seems like a horrible place to go now. The risk of getting the infection can be limited if your mom takes necessary precautions. These are the guidelines from the Centre of Disease Control (CDC):

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces
  • Wear a face mask
