Should I go for covid19 test?

My name is Daniel Sebastian, I was informed by a friend that his wife was positive CoVid19 and I am worried that I might have caught the virus as well.

I will call my friend John and his wife Mary for an easier explanation. (both not real name)
FYI, Mary is a doctor

This is the timeline:
9 Mar - Mary treated a patient that lied about his/her travel history.

13 Mar - I met John for coffee. Later that day Mary was informed that the patient she treated on 9 Mar is positive covid19. A few days later (i forgot the exact date) Mary was also tested positive.

between 25 - 28 Mar - About 2 weeks after meeting John, I started to have shortness of breath at night, a slight cough but no fever. I went to the pharmacy to buy an inhaler because I had a history of asthma. A few days later, my breathing stabilized and my cough stopped. Throughout this period my body temperature is around 36 degree Celcius.

7 April - I was informed of the whole story by John in the afternoon. Later that evening around 5 pm, he mentioned that his whole family included his wife is tested negative. John mentioned that his wife Mary had no symptoms throughout the quarantine period until she was tested negative.

I have not been to any test.
Between 25 - 28 March I took the government assessment online and the result was I had minimal risk of infection.
Now my body temperature is 35.3 degree Celcius, no cough and no shortness of breath.
Should I undergo for Covid19 test?

Please advise thank you.

Thank you for your question. Given your friend is tested negative and you have minimal risk after taking the risk assessment, you may not need to undergo the COVID-19 test. Government hospitals may also not run the tests on you since you are less likely to have the infection. However, I do urge you to continue monitoring your health as you also have underlying asthma. Please take necessary precautions to protect yourself from the virus.

These are the guidelines from the Centre of Disease Control (CDC):

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces

You may consult a MOH doctor by clicking Ask Doctor at the Ministry of Health website (COVID-19 Portal) to ask any health issues related to COVID-19 starting from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm.

After 5.00 pm till 12.00 am, please direct your enquiries to our DoctorOnCall website at this link DoctorOnCall Tanya.
