Hi and thanks for your question, and no, being diagnosed with diabetes is most definitely going to end with your limbs getting cut off. Here, we’ll cover the complications that comes with uncontrolled diabetes and the tips and tricks to prevent it.

  1. There are multiple complications that can happen with diabetes, and it can involve multiple organs – namely the eyes, the heart, the nerves, the kidneys and the skin.
  2. The eyes – because the diabetic body cannot properly process glucose, it is converted to a toxic form known as sorbitol which when deposited in the eyes, makes your vision go blurry, and even see weirds objects floating around.
  3. The kidneys – when diabetes damages the blood vessels within your kidney, your kidneys can no longer effectively filter out substances, and may leak out some important large proteins within the body. And because toxic substances cannot be filtered out, there is the accumulation of toxic substances within your body.
  4. The nerves – the sorbitol that is derived from glucose is deposited on nerves, causing damage and the sensation of numbness at whichever nerve is affected. This ties in to the diabetic foot problems we see with patients and why some limbs must be cut off.
  5. The foot – diabetic foot has a wide range of problems, from the nerve problems, the ulcers and the skin problems to name a few. Because diabetes essentially interrupts blood flow to the limb and damages it’s nerve, tissues may die over time and no longer recover, this is when there is a need to cut it off to prevent potential infection of the dead tissues and spreading of it to the whole body. Unless necessary, your limbs are safe
  6. the way to prevent all the complications above is to control your blood sugar by exercise, diet control and eating your drugs.
