I think I have genital warts and it’s spreading to other parts of my body

  • Thank you for the question. Warts itself is caused by a virus known as the human papilloma virus (HPV). There are over 100 types of HPV. These viruses can infect the skin, genital area and your feet when you came in contact with them. Genital warts is mostly caused by HPV type 6 and 11 in about 90% of the patient.

  • They have the predilection to infect the mucosal surfaces, such as the anal, vagina and penile area. These viruses can spread to other part of the body through contacts, especially through the abraded skin. However, genital warts seldom spread to other skin areas. You are more likely to get the common warts which is caused by different types of human papilloma viruses. It is an infection of the top layer of skins , known as the epidermis layer.

  • The warts is due to to the rapid growth of the cells at the infected area. It may take weeks or months for you to have the warts after an infection. Most people will have common or genital warts during their lifetime. People always get warts from another infected person and not from pets or other animals. People with weaker immune system gets more frequent HPV infections, such as the children.

  • Try to avoid wounded skin contact with public surfaces as the viruses are easily get through the breakthrough skin. Make sure you washed your hands thoroughly. As for now, you need to seek healthcare provider to check the cause of the warts. Doctor can remove the warts from the area using salicylic acid or freezing the warts. Depending on your situation, you may need a few times to remove the warts completely or even a few weeks. Have a good day !!!

Do you know that your immune system plays role in the effectiveness of vaccines?
