I have warts around the head of my penis, is it treatable? Am I going to be impotent?

  • Hey, I appreciate the questions. Firstly, before the treatment your GP will do a genital examinations and the warts themselves. Your GP may put a liquid on the skin to make it more clear to see warts. An procedure called a colposcopy can be conducted to magnify the area so your provider can look more closely at the your skin or the cervix. A sample of tissue can be taken for laboratory tests to help confirm the diagnosis.

  • A scope may be as well used to check for warts in the urethra and the bladder. Often warts that can’t be seen are diagnosed when female undergoes a Pap test. Often a HPV-DNA test may be conducted to see if the type of human papillomavirus (HPV) causing the warts is the type related to cervical cancer.

  • The main options for treatment include by applying medicine on the warts, surgically removing the warts, freezing the warts using liquid nitrogen or known as cryotherapy, removing off the warts with a laser, burning off the warts by using a wire loop and electric current (not sure whether this is done in Malaysia setting or not)
or you can wait to see if the warts go away on their own.

  • You may need a local medication to numb the area before some of these treatments option. Sometimes it may go away without any treatment needed. They can, however, grow and form larger clusters of warts. Removal of the warts does not remove of the virus permanently, because the virus becomes dormant for varying periods of times.

  • Because you will still needed the virus after treatment, instead other warts can grow. A recurrence of warts can be treated using the same ways as described above.
