Hi there. Thank you for the inquiry. You must be very bothered by these conditions and it may have been affecting your quality of life. In your case, acne and allergy may or may not be related.

  • They may present as two different conditions or the acne may be caused by the allergy. Acne happens when the sebaceous gland, the gland that produces sweat attached to the hair follicles are stimulated when there is rise in androgens in women or stress-related, medication, diet or even hereditary. These follicles get blocked by sebum causing an acne breakout. It could be in the form of white heads, black heads or pimples. Hives or urticaria on the other hand is an allergic reaction to certain food, medication and chemicals.

  • Allergens such as nuts, fish, eggs, chocolates, aspirin and ibuprofen. There is pale red bumps on the skin that happens on sudden. It will be itchy and sometimes with a stinging sensation. For this anti-histamine will be prescribed. You also need to identify what are the possible triggers to acne and allergy by trial and error. Once established, always avoid the allergens. Skin test may also be done determine the cause.

  • Another possible explanation is that it begins with an exposure to allergens that causes the body’s immunity to overreact. This cause urticaria. When it forms, a causes itchiness that leads to the person scratching the skin. This action severely dehydrates the skin. A dry skin is known to cause an acne breakout.

  • When there is a lack of natural oil in the skin, more sebum will be produced in response. This leads to excessive sebum production causing blocked pores. For both these conditions, you will need to identify the trigger. I hope this helps.
