Vaccine Hesitancy - How to advice anti-vaxxer
My parent seems like believing social media propaganda about negative things related to COVID-19 vaccine. How should a non-medical person advice him? Can i request for a one-on-one consultation to persuade him?

Hi, thank you for reaching out to us.
We understand your concern regarding your father’s stand and opinions regarding the false claims on the vaccine. Advising a person who believes whatever is circulated in the internet is hard and it takes a lot of patience. You need to understand the basic concept of how vaccine work and how vaccine can protect one self and the others around him or her. Other than that, since the vaccine is very new and produced at a fast rate, that is one of the reasons why it is easier for people to believe the false information regarding the vaccine itself.
At this point of time, what you can do is you may do some of these methods:
- Explain why is the vaccine safe and how its benefit outweighs the risks
- Showing him a video of a doctor or medical personnel explaining about the vaccine in simple terms
- Explain the importance of the vaccine to him especially if he is having chronic diseases
- If you know a person who already received the vaccine, you can ask the person to explain the vaccination process and side effects personally to your father
- Find an article debunking COVID-19 vaccine’s myths
This is only our general opinion regarding your inquiries. Other than the mentioned above, you also may also contact us at ( DoctorOnCall ) for an online consultation with our doctors via phone call.
