Bleeding during and after sexual intercourse
Hello doctors.
I’m a 27 y/o woman. I had protected sex on my day 9 of cycle. I’ve stopped bleeding for my period on my day 6, which is the usual cycle for me.
But during the penetration, I bled. It’s the first. I NEVER bleed during or after sex before. And it’s kinda thick as the spot on the towel soaked the comforter underneath too.
To note: It was my first sex after 7 months.
So… I washed up, peed, thinking it was just spotting.
After that… we had sex, again. And I bled, again. This is where I’m getting concerned.
So… my concerns are…
- is it possible to experience spotting twice in a row? First and second penetration, concurrently?
- is it possible to continue menstruating after penetration? Considering it’s still around my cycle, more or so.
- is the guy expose to std from the period blood even when he had his condom on?
I’ve tried googling but the search results were all similar: spotting due to vaginal injury, and worse, early symptoms for cancer. Which doesn’t help.
I’m so sorry for the super lengthy message. I really hope I can get glimpses of insights from you guys
Thank you so much

Hello and thank you for using our service
We understand that you’ve experienced bleeding during sex and we will try to help you with this matter.
For your information, menstruation could happen while having sex as it is normal but bleeding during sex can also be caused by few conditions such as:
- Not enough lubricants.
- Trauma or tear on vaginal structure
- Wounds on the vagina
- Spotting due to ovulation
But it can also be due to serious conditions such as:
- Cervical or endometrial polyps
- Vaginal or cervical cancer
While there is a risk for STD transmission, the percentage of transmission is low if protection is used.
You are advised to consult with our doctor via teleconsultation to assess your condition and provide you with further advice.
We hope this answers your question.
Have a nice day, thank you.
