COVID-19 return from South Korea - compulsory for self quarantine at home for 14 days

I have a service provider who just came back from Jeung Pyeong, South Korea on 2 Mar 2020. He plan to come into our manufacturing Plant to provide services to our production equipment.

He has no flu -like symptoms but when he did the SELF RISK ASSESSMENT from Virtual Health Advisory Portal, MOH website, he is in MEDIUM_HIGH RISK FOR COVID-19.
Please talk to doctor for further action.
PLEASE QUARANTINE YOURSELF.

Is it mandatory to self quarantine at home for 14 days for those travel from South Korea in the last 3 days? Should our company request all person(s) from South Korea to self quarantine at home for 14 days before allow him/her to enter our Manufacturing Plant?

Thank you for your questions.

From your description I understand that your worker are just coming back from south Korea and he already did self risk assessment. From there he was categorized as medium-high risk patient and was advised to do self quarantine at home.

Thus to address your question whether it is mandatory for those who just came back from South Korea to be quarantine, the answer would be yes. This is the precaution steps to contain the virus from spreading. If within this 14 days, they develop any symptoms please come to the hospital for further assessment. The symptoms are:

  • Fever

  • Coughing

  • Shortness of breath

  • Body ache

  • Sore throat

  • Headache

  • Runny nose

Here are the guideline for home quarantine according to Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):

  • Patient should be in a room by himself and avoid contact as much as possible from the rest of the household members.

  • Patient should also have an access to a bathroom for his own use only. Monitor them for development of any symptoms of coronavirus

  • Prohibit unnecessary visits by people not living in your house.

  • Avoid contact with pets

  • Make sure that shared spaces has good ventilation

  • Maintain good hygiene like washing hands frequently and avoid touching eyes, mouth, nose with unwashed hands

  • Wear face mask when you are in the same room with your patient. Do not reuse the face mask.

  • Avoid sharing household items with the patient, wash their clothes separately and thoroughly.

  • Wipe surfaces with disinfectants.

  • Dispose all face mask, disposable gloves and other contaminated items in a lined container before disposing them with other household waste.
