Dry throat and nasal congestion

I am a 21 y/o female, and I’ve been having a dry and slightly itchy feeling in my throat recently, but it’s not continuously, it lasts for a few hours then it’s back to normal.

Also, I’ve had a congested nasal recently when I sleep at night, so I find it harder to inhale and exhale, but during the day time my breathing is normal, could these be symptoms of covid 19?

Hello and good afternoon. Thank you for your questions.

For your information, the following are the symptoms of COVID-19 that should be awared by the public which is:

  • Fever
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Headaches
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Sore throat
  • Cough or excessive sneezing.

It is less likely that your symptoms that you are currently facing is related to a COVID-19 infection. Itchy throat and congested nasal is more likely caused by an allergic reaction or a nasopharyngeal infection that occurs within the nasal mucosa. Besides, an itchy throat might be caused by a condition called Postnasal drip, which the phlegm or mucus secretion caused by nasal or sinus infection or allergic reaction, has leaked into the throat, causing a spread of infection or inflammation.

We suggest that you meet your nearest doctor to obtain a suitable treatment for your situation. Having a clogged nose is not specified for a COVID-19 infection and somewhat might be not related at all because excessive mucus secretion is most likely to be related to an allergic reaction.
