Both swab and saliva self test kits have the same function, which is to detect the antigens ( a type of protein found on viral surfaces). The major difference between these 2 tests is the type of sample used. RTK-Ag swab test uses samples from the nose while the self-test kit uses saliva. Both these tests produce fast results, hence why they are used as screening tests for Covid-19. Both of these tests have about the same accuracy to detect Covid-19 antigens. A more accurate test would be RT-PCR which generally take a longer time to show results and is done if either RTK-Ag swab or saliva test comes out positive.
