Allergy and covid 19 vaccine with PEG

I had allergic reaction to Griseofulvin like swollen eyes and skin rashes. What is the component in the medication that causes the allergy? Is it safe to take Pfizer vaccine (with PEG)?

Hello, thank you for reaching out to us.

We understand the problem you are currently experiencing. For your information, griseofulvin is an antifungal medication. Its side effects include:

  • Skin manifestation: Urticaria, rashes
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Allergic reaction

This is just our general description of your problem. We recommend that you see a doctor so that further assessment can be done and treatment can be given to you. On top of that, if you experience the side effects mentioned above, please see a doctor so that alternative medication can be prescribed to you.

Regarding the vaccine, we need a full medical history and physical examination needs to be done to see whether you are suitable for the vaccination or not. Therefore, doing pre-vaccination assessment is recommended. According to the National COVID-19 Immunization Program, these group of people are exempted from receiving the vaccine:

  • Having allergy to any vaccine and the ingredients used inside the vaccine
  • Showed allergic reaction after receiving the first dose of vaccination
  • Pregnant and lactating mothers
  • Immunosuppressed individuals
