Casual Contact No Symptoms

Hi Doc. I just get a notice from MySejahtera that i’m casual contact. I don’t have any symptoms. Therefore, may i know whether can i go out to order foods/dine in and scan MySejahtera?

Greetings! Thank you for your questions.

For your information, as a casual contact, you are considered to be at low risk of contracting COVID-19. You are unlikely to get infected just from having been in the same place with patient with COVID-19. You are a casual contact if you have been within only two meters of someone with COVID-19 for less than 15 minutes.

Recent studies revealed that between 5% – 80% of the COVID-19 cases may be asymptomatic, which means they exhibit no signs and symptoms of the same. This group of people, therefore, tends to spread COVID-19 without really knowing it. Therefore, for now, you are advised to be vigilant and continue practising the new norms recommended by the MOH. Do take note of any further information presented through the MySejahtera application. You are very much welcome to practice temporary room isolation as a viable precautionary measure for the time being and monitor for any symptoms within 10 days.

Although at this moment, it is not compulsory for a casual contact to do swab test in Malaysia, you must get tested as soon as possible if you develop any symptoms. Symptoms to look out for include:

  • fever (37.5°C or higher) or history of fever (night sweats, chills)
  • cough
  • shortness of breath (difficulty breathing).
  • runny nose
  • loss of taste
  • loss of smell
  • sore throat
