Covid 19 vaccine (with allergic history)

Hi, I’am 22 years old, female. I have history of allergic to ampicillin and erythromycin during my childhood. I had severe rashes, diarrhea, have been hospitalized and i was adviced not to take those 2 medications anymore. Is it safe for me to get the Covid 19 vaccine especially Sinovac as i have been offered that? My appointment for vaccination is on 30th June 2021. Wish to hear back soon. Thank you.

Hi and thank you for your question,

We truly understand your concern regarding the history of having drug allergies, and whether you are a suitable candidate for Sinovac vaccination. We will try to help you with this matter.

For your information, there are few conditions that will contraindicate vaccination which are

  • those that experience severe allergies, anaphylaxis after receiving 1st dose of COVID-19 vaccine (will not be advised to continue the second dose)
  • those that have severe allergies, anaphylaxis to other vaccines, medication or other substance

You should consult your doctor or report to the vaccination centre if you have had a history of allergies and are unsure about the severity.

You are also encouraged to talk to our doctor online, so that we can help you further.

We hope you will be satisfied with our answer.
