Fever and sore throat for 3 days and must I do the screening test?
Hi Dr., I’ve been having fever and sore throat for 3 days. I didnt have any direct contact with any positive COVID person but I’m just a bit concerned bcs I work at a place where a lot of foreigners came by. So I went to a clinic yesterday and the doctor asked me to go to HKL to do the screening test. So I went to HKL and they said that they dont consider me as someone who had direct contact with a positive COVID person. Now, I just need to know whether I should do the screening test? Thank you.

Greetings!
Thank you for your question. Since you have underwent necessary medical examination and even consulted a doctor in HKL, it is therefore not necessary for you to do the screening test. I can only advice you to monitor your symtoms and risk for COVID-19. Private hospitals like KPJ do offer OCVID-19 test for those that are not considered high risk for COVID-19. We also provide home testing services, accessible through this link: COVID-19 Screening At Home.
Besides COVID-19, there are other causes of fever and sore throat such as:
- Tonsillitis
- Pharyngitis
- Not drinking enough water
You may consult a MOH doctor by clicking Ask Doctor at the Ministry of Health website (COVID-19 Portal) to ask any health issues related to COVID-19 starting from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm.
After 5.00 pm till 12.00 am, please direct your enquiries to our DoctorOnCall website at this link https://www.doctoroncall.com.my/tanya/.
Thank you.
