G6PD and AZ vaccine issue
Good day Dr, I’m 23 years old and I have G6PD. I want to know is someone with G6PD eligible to get AZ vaccine? Or is there any correlation between them? I did some research say on AZ vaccine and had some findings showing that it might result in CVST for certain people. So I’m eager to know does G6PD increase the vulnerability to this problem?

Based on the above information, we understand your concern about the problem that is encountered. For your information, individuals who have deficiency in glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) are at risk of developing a hemolytic crisis after exposure to oxidants or infection. Individuals with G6PD deficiency are more susceptible to coronavirus infection. Altered immune responses to viral infections are found in individuals with G6PD deficiency. For the COVID-19 vaccination to patients with G6PD disease, there are no relevant contraindications regarding this matter. However, it is best that you refer this matter directly to a doctor as thorough health data is required before any conclusions can be made.
Besides. if patients who are allergic to paracetamol, anti-inflammatories or antibiotics are at extra risk of COVID-19, they should get the vaccine. However, it depends on the risk and benefits, therefore please consult your doctor if you are not sure.
Nevertheless, it is better that you get further confirmation from a doctor or specialist at a nearby clinic or hospital, as well as report to the medical officer at your Vaccination Center.
You can also contact the Crisis Preparedness and Response Center (CPRC) or JKJAV. In addition, continue the routine of regular hand hygiene, practice social/physical incarceration, wear face masks outdoors and adhere to other pandemic SOPs.
