Treatment for wrinkles

Doctor, my mom is now 60 years old and I want to treat her some treatment for wrinkles for her birthday. any suggestion on what treatment?

  • Hello and thank you for submitting your question. That is a thoughtful gift for your mother and I’m sure she will appreciate it. Ageing of the skin is caused by many factors including direct sunlight on unprotected skin and lifestyle factors. Fortunately in this age of time, there are many options for ageless good looks which does not include surgery.
One of the option is dermal fillers.

  • Dermal fillers are injection of filler materials such as collagen or hyaluronic acid in deep folds of the skin, such as nasolabial folds, can create fuller lips and pad out hollow cheeks and eyes. This would give you a more youthful look.

  • One widely popular ageing treatment is botulinum toxin injection, also popularly known as Botox. Botox is a muscle relaxer that temporarily paralyses muscles when injected, thus preventing skin above from creasing up and causing wrinkles. The effects of this procedure takes a few days to take effect.

  • Certain skin treatment such as chemical peels and dermal rolling is also popular nowadays. Chemical peel use acids such as glycolic acids or lactic acids applied to the skin which exfoliates the top layer, causing dead skin cells to peel off. This helps reduce fine lines, scars and discolouration.

  • Dermal rolling is a percutaneous collagen induction therapy which involves rolling a cylinder covered in tiny needles over your skin which stimulates collagen production and reduces wrinkles.

  • Laser procedures are also a newer form of treatment which uses heat to cause controlled injury in the epidermal and dermal layers of the skin, inducing the body to respond by producing more collagen in that area.
The important tip is to do your research properly before choosing the most suitable procedure for your mother. Visit your dermatologist and obtain all information before choosing the best option.
