When and who needs to go for 14 day home surveillance although no symptoms? What is MOH’s directive? What is the enforcement rule?

1. Do people returned from the following countries need to be put on 14-day home surveillance -
Mainland China?
Hong Kong?
Macau?
Taiwan?
Korea?
Iran?
Italy?
Japan?

  1. A has contact with a COVID-19 confirmed case during a netball match. A does not have any symptom and has been in school the whole week.
    a) Does A need to get tested?
    b) If yes, where to get tested?
    c) How about the others (e.g. students, colleagues) who have contact with A? Do they need to be undergo the 14days home surveillance?

Greetings!

Thank you for your questions. For the first question, all those returning from these listed countries are required to have a 14-days home surveillance.

For your second question, A is a close contact of someone with confirmed COVID-19. According to MOH guidelines, for a patient under investigation that does not fulfill admission criteria like being asymptomatic and no travel history to high risk countries:

  • Sample shall be taken at screening hospital / centre (Click here for the list of Designated Hospitals that handles COVID-19 cases produced by MOH)
  • They shall send home and put under Daily Home Surveillance for 14 days
  • Samples of the patient under investigation should be send to Hospital Lab/IMR

The others in contact with A does not need home surveillance yet as A is not a confirmed case, nor is she having any symptoms. However, everyone is still encouraged to take preventive measures like practicing good hand hygiene and wearing face mask.

I hope I have answered your question. Thank you for your enquiry.
