59 years old on and off fever

My 59 years old mom has been having on and off fever (36.9 - 37.6 deg. C) for almost a month and only started coughing recently. No direct contact with the infected / high risk personnel. Should she go for covid-19 test?

From the above complaints, we understand that your 59 years old mom has been having fever and coughing. It is advisable for your mom to answer the quiz on Risk Assessment for COVID-19 to evaluate your health status in regards to this disease. After completing this quiz, your mom will be classified into several categories as follows:

Low risk: You have to perform self-quarantine at home for at least 14 days. You also have to monitor your health such as taking your temperature and look out for any COVID-19 symptoms like coughing, fever and shortness of breath.

Moderate risk : You have to visit your nearest healthcare facility to obtain further confirmation.

High risk : You have to visit your nearest healthcare facility immediately. If you are confirmed with COVID-19, you will be referred to a specific hospital and receive further treatment there. You will also be quarantined at the healthcare facility for surveillance.

Besides COVID-19 infection, symptoms of fever and coughing can be cause by other health problems such as:

  • Pneumonia
  • Viral fever
  • Dengue fever
