Any method to prevent lazy eyes become serious

I’m 21 years old female. My right eye has shortsighted 350, but left eye don’t have short sighted. I heard people said this is lazy eyes and will cause cross eyes problem and affect my appearance. I found that my eye balls look weird. I googled and found that only young children can be treated but I have already 21 years old, am I still got chance being treated? I do not always wear spectacle because I feel comfortable without spectacle. Is there any method that I can do to prevent my right eye shortsighted to become serious and to prevent my eyeballs become cross eyes?

Hi, thank you for the question.

We understand your concern regarding your condition in the question section. There are various reasons why a person can have lazy eyes:

  • Strabismus amblyopia where there is imbalance in muscles that position the eyes
  • Refractive amblyopia where there is significant difference in eye “power” or sometimes even due to astigmatism (uneven surface of the eyes)
  • Deprivation; commonly found in infant and childhood cataract and this kind of lazy eye needs prompt treatment

We are unable to give you a definite answer whether you still have a chance to be treated or not because you need evaluation by a doctor phyisically to see what is the underlying problem to your lazy eyes.

For the time being, you can continue to wear your spectacles or contact lenses as this could correct your lazy eyes issue.
