Burning sensation at anal area

Hi. I am 32 years old female. Past 2 weeks having burning sensation (like stabbing using knife) at my anal area. This happens every time I go to toilet and poop. I can’t take the pain at all. The pain doesn’t reduce unless I don’t poop for 2 days or more. By the way, prior to the 2 weeks, I was suffering from constipation. Now almost daily I am using the toilet. Is there any medication or ointments that I can use to reduce the burn or cure it? Could this be anal fissure? Hope any doctor can advice. Thank you

Hello, Thank you for contacting us.

Burning sensation at the anal area, can be associated with many types of abnormalities or condition. However, in order to fully diagnose your condition, a visit to an established practitioner is required.

From the symptoms that you have described there are several differentials that we may focus upon such as:

  • Infection around the anal area
  • Trauma or cracks around the anal area
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease

There are few tips that we can recommend for the time being (but further assessment is imperative especially if the symptoms continues or exacerbates) such as:

  • putting ice gently around the burning area when in pain or bleeding (must be clean and sanitized)
  • ensure the anal area is always clean, sanitized and moisturized
  • limit or minimize your straining efforts and duration when defecating
  • eat more fruits, vegetables and other fibers to reduce constipation
