Early symptoms of pregnancy?

Hi Dr. I had sex with my partner for 5 days (monday-friday) straight last week. He used condoms each time, and I ate morning-after-pill twice which is on the second day (tuesday night) and took the 2nd pill on friday morning. But we had sex few hours after i took the 2nd pill, and didnt take any pill afterwards. We also tested the condoms by putting water inside it afterwards to see if it’s leaked.

I am supposed to have my period this week around 15th (but my period was rarely consistent every month). I had breast tenderness this whole week (which usually happen few days before my period) (but this time it is longer). And yestrdy when i woke up from a short nap, my stomach was a bit cramp, and i went to the toilet to poo and pee and there’s a blood coming out but not sure from where. Unfortunately it wasnt my period. And my stomach wasnt happy this few days.

Im a bit confused with all these symptoms, is it the effect of the morning after pill i took, or is it the symptom of my period coming, or is it a symptom of pregnancy. Because everything seem to be in one time and I cant seem to identify which is which. Im scared if im pregnant. Cant fully depends on my period cycle since it wasnt consistent every month (can be up to 4 weeks late). Please advise.

Greetings. Thank you for your questions.

First and foremost, we truly understand your concerns regarding your symptoms. For your information, a woman can be pregnant when their spouse ejaculates into the vagina during sexual intercourse during the most fertile period of the month. Sperm cells inside the semen requires to travel through the genital tract down to the uterus and fallopian tube where they fertilize with the women’s ovum.

If you experience signs of pregnancy such as vomiting, no menstruation in the next month, bloating as well as mood swings, you are encouraged to take a test for pregnancy.

After taking the emergency contraceptive pill, you will know it has been effective when you get your next period and your period looks normal. You are advised to go to the clinic or consult a doctor if you:

  • If your period comes late more than 5 days or looks unusual like too much or bright redness.
  • If you are still worried that you are pregnant.
  • If you experience sudden pain or discomfort in the lower abdomen and menstruation comes late.
  • If you have any concerns about your health or want to know about the most suitable method of contraception for you.
