Fever & travel history to Vietnam
Hi, my dad is having an on and off fever starting from 21/3, with running nose. His body temperature is fluctuating between 36.5 to 37.4 these three days after taking medicine presribed by clinic doctor.
Today morning, my mom is having a high fever, ~38.5°c. She has a travelling history to Vietnam, and today is the 15th days she returned to Malaysia. We sent her to a clinic, but her body temperature still remains high after taking the medicine, about 38°c. No other symptoms beside fever.
Do we need to send her to the hospital for COVID-19 check?

Thank you for your question. I understand that your parents have symptoms of fever. Your mother has a history of travelling to Vietnam which is a non-high risk country for COVID-19. Based on your symptoms, you are encouraged to answer the quiz on Risk Assessment for COVID-19 to evaluate your health status in regards to this disease. After completing this quiz, you will be classified into several categories. The decision of whether a person needs to be checked is depending on the doctor’s evaluation of the patient’s history and risks. High risk individuals including those with close contact and history of travelling to high risk countries with presentation of COVID-19 symptoms.
Symptoms of infected persons with COVID-19 are such as:
- Fever ( more than 37.5 degrees Celcius)
- Coughing
- Shortness of breath
- Body ache
- Sore throat
- Headache
- Runny nose
