It’s been two month now where my fever keeps recurring

I am a 28 years old working woman. It’s been two month now where my fever keeps recurring where sometimes I’ll get cold sweat at night. Last Friday was the worst. I had a fever that is 40 degrees, coughing and flu. This whole week, my fever has gone but I feel sudden tired, shortness in breathing, and I keep vomiting every time I eat. I don’t know. Is it something related with stress?

  • Hello there. Thank you for the inquiry. It seems to me that you are having a prolonged, high fever accompanied by respiratory symptoms such as shortness of breath and flu. I will explain the possible diagnoses as more details are needed. Given the long duration, I would consider tuberculosis as a diagnosis. Tuberculosis is caused by a microorganism called Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

  • This bacteria attacks the respiratory system and may also attack the spine and abdomen. It is highly curable and preventable. The classical symptom is dry cough for more than 3 weeks, weight loss, and loss of appetite, fever, fatigue, night sweats and chills. You will need to see a doctor to confirm this diagnosis. He will perform tuberculin test and chest X-ray as well as blood tests to come to a conclusion. Meanwhile, I suggest you perform several preventive steps to ensure there is no spread of tuberculosis.

  • Always keep your mouth closed when you are coughing or sneezing as the infection is airborne. Always wash the hands after coughing or sneezing. Ideally, it best to be isolated until you are clear of infection. Your doctor will also ask about your working environment, the presence of foreign workers around you and cases of tuberculosis at your workplace.

  • The treatment will involve about 6 months of medication of 4 types of anti-microbial drugs. It is very important to complete the treatment. If this is not the case, it could be due to the formation of abscess in the body that gives a high grade fever and especially if you are having pain on common site for abscess such as tonsils, anus and teeth. All in all, I recommend that you see a doctor and undergo laboratory tests to identify the problem. I hope this helps.
